Our Mission

The Missouri Lung Cancer Coalition is a statewide partnership working to prevent lung cancer, increase early detection through screening, and reduce lung cancer deaths through collaboration, education, and policy initiatives.

The Missouri Lung Cancer Coalition is a statewide partnership of healthcare providers, public health organizations, advocacy groups, researchers, and community leaders working together to reduce the burden of lung cancer across Missouri.

Through collaboration, education, and coordinated outreach, the Coalition focuses on prevention, early detection, and improved outcomes for people at risk for lung cancer.

Our partners work together to expand access to lung cancer screening, increase awareness of risk factors such as smoking and radon exposure, and support initiatives that improve lung cancer care across the state.

The Missouri Lung Cancer Coalition works to:

  • Increase lung cancer screening and early detection

  • Promote radon awareness and mitigation

  • Reduce lung cancer risk through prevention and education

  • Improve access to evidence-based tobacco cessation programs

  • Support collaboration among healthcare systems, public health organizations, and community partners

Through these efforts, the Coalition seeks to reduce lung cancer deaths and improve quality of life for Missourians affected by lung cancer.

Why This Work Matters

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Missouri and the United States.

Each year thousands of Missouri families are affected by lung cancer. Many cases are diagnosed at later stages, when treatment options are more limited.

However, progress is possible.

Early detection through low-dose CT screening, combined with prevention strategies such as reducing tobacco use and radon exposure, can significantly reduce lung cancer deaths.

The Missouri Lung Cancer Coalition was formed to bring partners together to address these challenges through coordinated statewide efforts.

Our Collaborative Approach

The Coalition brings together partners from across Missouri, including:

  • Healthcare systems and cancer centers

  • Public health agencies

  • Universities and research institutions

  • Nonprofit organizations

  • Community health organizations

  • Patient advocates and survivors

By working together, coalition partners are able to:

  • Share resources and best practices

  • Expand lung cancer education programs

  • Increase awareness of screening and prevention

  • Advocate for policies that improve lung cancer outcomes
